Biography

François Baboulet was born on April 12, 1914 in Toulouse (Haute-Garonne). Son of Louis Baboulet, Inspector General of the PTT, and Mrs. Berthe Passerieu. He is married on April 29, 1946 to Yvette Micas of which he will have two children. After his studies at the college of Caousou, he enters the Faculty of Law and Letters, then the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Toulouse. He "goes up" to Paris to take courses at the Ecole nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris (Devambez class) which he will be a laureate.

Back in Toulouse, he was appointed Professor at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Toulouse in 1941, then returns to Paris to live his job as a painter at the end of the war in 1945. From that time, he is heavily involved in the artistic field of the capital by successively or simultaneously occupying the following positions: President of the group The Three Dimensions at the gallery Durand-Ruel (1955-70), Chairman of the Commission of Professionalism of Graphic and Plastic Arts ( painting section), Vice-President of the House of Artists (Salomon de Rothschild Foundation), Technical Advisor and Vice-President of the Confederation of Professional Workers, President (1968-98) and Honorary President of the National Society of Fine Arts, Honorary Vice-President of Comparisons, former member of the Salon des Indépendants, member of the jury at the Salon d'Automne, President of the Latin Lands exhibition of the Museum of Modern Art of the a Ville de Paris, painter holder of the Navy then Vice-President of the Association of Official Painters of the Navy, President of the SNBA fair at the Carrousel du Louvre (1999), President of the exhibition Marine 2000 (town hall of 9e arrondissement de Paris ), Member of the Salon du Grenier à Sel Honfleur (1998), Chargé de Mission, Saint Pierre and Miquelon Islands. He participates in various radio and television shows, He is also author of texts and artistic prefaces.

He also represents France as a guest artist : in Japan at Riyoharuu Hive, Nishinomiya Town, Beppu (Kyushu), Yokosuka Naval Base, Montreal (Canada), Lake Champlain (United States).

Painter of poetic reality, he works willingly in the Pyrenees, in Normandy, on the Côte d'Azur and in Brittany. His paintings seek to get as close as possible to reality, often in trompe-l'oeil. His still lifes, in particular, draw heavily on the art of the eighteenth century to give a modern reading. Small size, his paintings reflect his kindness, his love of life and his amazement at nature.

He died on December 17, 2010 in Paris.

"François Baboulet, a former pupil of the National School of Fine Arts in Paris, was probably the most committed painter in post-war Parisian art, and President of the Three Dimensions Group at the Durand-Ruel gallery until 1970, he marked at the same time his imprint most societies that are called "historic": Member of the Salon des Indépendants, Vice President of Comparisons, member of the jury of the Salon d'automne, He was a member of the National Society of Fine Arts, a dynamic and respected president for thirty years. He was appointed in 1973 to the envied body of the Naval Official Painters where we met then. Devoting the talent of this Toulouse-born artist to Paris by adopting his workshop rue de Tournon (Saint-Germain-des-prés *NFTG), the French Navy woke up his tropism as a frequent traveler by sending him on a mission to the islands of Saint Pierre and Miquelon.

Exhibitions - Awards

The works of François BABOULET appear in private collections and museums, they were acquired by the State of France and the City of Paris. He exhibited at the Yoshii Gallery in Paris (1998), Isetan in Tokyo (Japan), at the Seine and Saint-Placide Galleries in Paris, at the Laetitia Gallery in Brie-Comte-Robert and at the Clappe-Œillet Gallery in Toulouse. He was named Officer of the National Order of Merit and Arts and Letters, Officer of the Rising Sun (Japan) and received the Vermeil Medal of the City of Paris and the Municipal Grand Prix of Trouville-sur-Mer.
