Jacques-Hubert Bonnefoy was born on August 30, 1887, in Mesnil-Aubrey, in the Seine-et-Oise department.
Shortly after his birth, his family moved to Paris, where his father was appointed professor of drawing. Jacques-Hubert Bonnefoy learned the basics of drawing from his father before enrolling at the Académie Julian, where he studied under Jean-Paul Laurens and Gabriel Ferrier.
He married in 1922 and went on to work for many years for the postcard publisher Barré-Dayez. His illustrations of landscapes and regional costumes of France were highly appreciated. He worked under his real name as well as under numerous pseudonyms: Jack, Jacky, Jacquot, Jacquet, and also Jakuber.
Jacques-Hubert Bonnefoy died in Paris on August 20, 1976.
