This painting is part of the period of Drôme landscapes painted by Laure Bruni during her repeated vacations in the north of Provence. This is undoubtedly the painter's best period and one of her major works. We can see the Drôme river in its winding course with the Glandasse mountain in the background in the setting sun. The uneven pictorial layer of the moving water combined with the blurred treatment of the middle and the background beyond the depth of field gives an ethereal atmosphere of deep poetry
