Biography
François Lombardi was born on May 24, 1925 in Marseille. He paints from 1937 landscapes in the lineage of René Seyssaud and scenes of strongly typed characters. Self-taught, he knows in his youth in Marseille Pierre Ambrogiani, Louis Audibert, Antoine Serra, Louis Toncini, François Diana, Antoine Ferrari and all the painters of Péano.
His expressionist verve and his strength as a painter are revealed in compositions with truculent figures. The landscapes of François Lombardi come from the traditional techniques of the XIXth century Provencal. His strength as a painter is expressed in dark and smooth landscapes, thickened and brilliant, saying the distance, like a perched village for example. His expressionist strength is revealed in rough portraits, their dough is thick, their colors frank and packed, the subjects lined and faces sketched.
Centered on Provence, his work is very endearing. It will have transcribed the human characters, and the Provençal landscapes and climate with an initiated subtlety lived, shared and appreciated by the natives of this magnificent region.
